I had the honor of photographing Terry and Luis’ New York City wedding and I jumped at the chance to travel to one of the cities on my bucket list! My former bride, Melanie contacted me to see if I might be interested in photographing her best friend and former ‘man of honor’s’ wedding. I’ve always wanted to photograph a same sex wedding, as it’s something I strongly believe in. I’m a hopeless romantic, but I truly do believe that love really does conqueror all! Terry and Luis were fantastic, flexible and so helpful as my mom (who served as my travel companion) and I extended our stay a few days and became tourists.
The September day started off beautifully near Time Square.
I loved how simple and elegant Terry and Luis kept their invites. They also simmered in the light!
The hotel had this really interesting mirror, that I had fun photographing from all different angles.
Seriously, how adorable are they? I love how they just relaxed through the day and helped each other get ready.
I’m a little obsessed with black and white, but everyone already knows that!
St. John’s Church in the Village looked beautiful inside and out.
These might be my favorite sequence of images!
Also, this might be my favorite NYC photo I took during the trip.
Melanie and Terry had a great time just playing!
I found Brooklyn a lot like Detroit, just with more Hipsters and artisanal cheese shops.
One of the wedding guests, just overjoyed! I love when people are happy to have their picture taken.
The reception was at this amazing Thai restaurant in Brooklyn called Sea. I had the best pad thai of my life!
Sea also had this beautiful hanging sculpture from the ceiling, and I had a field day photographing it.
I love candle light and super fast ISOs!
Terry and Luis decided to save their first dance for later int he night at the historic and jaw dropping (at least to this out-of-towner) New York Public Library Yay! Officially married and amazing! A million congrats to Terry and Luis who reminded me what love really is!
