A lot of my clients ask me what they should wear. I always say, “Wear what you feel comfortable in.” Ok lets be honest, for me that’s pajamas. So, wear something that can compliment you partner and that you feel fabulous in.
Yes, I realize most of this is shoes. But I can’t help myself. I have a serious shoe addiction! However, I think a lot of principals here work.
Want something casual? Wear a great pair of jeans (we all have that one magical pair that makes our butts look great and we feel sexy in) and a cute top with a pop of color. Not a big fan of heels? No problem. Wear cute sandals or my fave… cowboy boots.
Want to dress is up a little more? Wear a simple sundress with some of your favorite jewelry. I leaned this lesson from my mom years ago: Jewelry shouldn’t match your outfit, it should bring out your outfit. Basically it should make it pop.
I also love when couples choose to bring 1 casual outfit and 1 elegant outfit. It really gives the shoot a diverse look. I’m also a huge fan of the pencil skirt on women. It makes all body types look good. Even if you have a little junk in the trunk (like me), or are short (like me) you can get it tailored to fit your curves perfectly.
I truly believe in well tailored clothes. Sure, I love a hoodie and jeans more than most but when it comes to a specific occasions, your look matters. I don’t have a ton of money to spend on my clothes. I usually by discount, (TJMax, Nordstrom Rack, vintage stores, etc..) and spend the difference on really great tailoring. Once you have a dress or top tailored to fit you perfectly, it will make all the difference. Make friends with your local alterations shop. I can recommend many if you need help. Email me!
For the guys… We all know you do the engagement shoot for your lady. Just give in. Just for one day. Let her dress you! A lot of guys do really well on their own, but come on most straight guys need a women’s touch. I like the guy’s outfits just a little neutral to let their fiance shine.
Go casual with jeans and a dressy shirt, or add slacks and nice shoes for a more polished look. I really love a nice signature piece like a leather jacket or peacoat to layer up with. Also, guys don’t forget some nice accessories like a watch (I love a man with a nice watch) and some shades.
